Vladislav Vančura

Vladislav Vančura was a Czech writer, film director, playwright and screenwriter. The main influences in his works were World War I and expressionism. He is particularly famous for using archaic, ornate Czech and focusing on the beautiful composition of words and sentences. The stories are mostly suppressed in favor of describing moments and experiences, and the narrator plays a major role. He was executed in 1942 by the Nazi Germany for working against the regime.
