Leonard Digges
A well-known English mathematician and surveyor, credited with the invention of the theodolite, and a great populariser of science through his writings in English on surveying, cartography, and military engineering (<a href=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Digges_(scientist)>Wikipedia</a>).
