Henry Roth

Henry Roth (Tysmenitz, Galitzia, February 8, 1906 – Albuquerque, New Mexico, October 13, 1995) was an American novelist and short story writer who found success later in life when his 1934 novel *Call It Sleep,* after which he did not publish again for 60 years, was reissued in paperback in 1964. Roth's writing centers on immigrant experience, particularly a Jewish-American experience in Depression-era America. He has also been hailed as a chronicler of New York City life. He's the author of *Mercy of a Rude Stream* (1994-1998), a monumental epic published in four volumes.
