Samuel May Jr. writes to Thomas Wentworth Higginson on the eve of Higginson?s court hearing for the charges related to the attack on the courthouse where Anthony Burns was detained. John L. Swift allegedly testified that Higginson had been deceived by Wendell Phillips, Theodore Parker and others to aid the attack. Saying that similar rumors are circulating around the town, May asks Higginson to correct this at the hearing to save the people in question from injustice.
