Description
The exhibition 'Willumsen, Gauguin, Lilja. Between myth and reality' puts the great luminaries of ceramic history, J.F.Willumsen (1863-1958) and Jean Rene Gauguin(1881-1961), in a bold dialogue with the young visual artist Klara Lilja (1989-) Despite differences and shifts in time, their works speak together through the narrative, figurative, quirky and grotesque. All three show a courage to experiment, break boundaries and go their own way. The texts in the richly illustrated exhibition catalog tell about J.F. Willumsen's intense work with ceramics and the importance it has for his painting. About Jean Rene Gauguin's lifelong exploration of the potential of ceramics as an artistic medium. And not least about Klara Lilja's way into a magical and mythical universe, representing a whole new generation of artists who express themselves in the timeless material that is ceramics. Exhibition: CLAY Keramikmuseum Danmark, Middelfart, Denmark (29.05. - 23.10.2022) / Willumsens Museum, Frederikssund, Denmark (04.11.2022 - 19.02.2023) Udstillingen 'Willumsen, Gauguin, Lilja.
