An autograph letter of Ben Jonson to his friend George Garrard containing his epitaph on Cecilia Bulstrode who died the 4th of August 1609

Description

This letter, containing an Epitaph on Cecilia Bulstrode, is in the Amy Lowell Collection in the Harvard College Library. It was formerly in the Bromley-Davenport Collection at Bagington Hall and has been printed by Percy Simpson in The Times Literary Supplement for 6 March 1930. A contemporary copy of the Epitaph in the Chetham Library was transcribed and printed in Notes and Queries, 3rd Series, Vol. IV, 5 September 1863. In the Harvard manuscript, Jonson made a marginal correction, substituting "it" for "here" in the thirteenth line of the Epitaph. -- Leaf [4].
