Description

The artists are Gerard Malanga, Ultra Violet, Allen Midgette, Laura Rubin, and Christopher Makos. These were Warhol's Superstars, a featured group of artists and performers who collaborated in making provocative, often outrageous, but entertaining and still captivating art. The exhibition also includes works from James, Paul, and Madelen Warhola and those who continue the family legacy. "Throughout his career, Warhol relied on the collaborativesupport of creative people in the visual, literary and performingarts to provide him with ideas and assistance in his artwork andhis movies. These people helped to create the intriguingatmosphere of Warhol's studio in New York City, known simply asthe Factory. Pop icons who became household names in the 1960s,these surviving members of the Factory are sometimes overlookedtoday, and their accomplishments remain hidden. The exhibition will feature the work of Gerard Malanga,Billy Name, Ultra Violet, Allen Midgette and Christopher Makos, who together symbolize the work and atmosphere of Warhol's 47thStreet studio (the Silver Factory) in the mid-1960s to Warhol'smove to Union Square in 1968 and to his final move to 33rdStreet.
