"La prestigiosa collezione privata di manoscritti, iniziata da Cosimo dei Medici e arricchita dai successori, arrivò a Roma nel 1508 e venne trasferita dal secondogenito di Lorenzo, il cardinale Giovanni, futuro papa Leone X, nel suo palazzo, annesso alla chiesa di Sant'Eustachio. Suddivisa in due sezioni, greca e latina, fu collocata in armaria, ordinata e ne fu redatto un dettagliato inventario dall'erudito spoletano Fabio Vigili, di cui si pubblica ora la Bibliotheca latina (562 items), conservata nel manoscritto Vat. lat. 7134, corredata di tutte le corrispondenze reperite con le attuali segnature del fondo mediceo dei Plutei e delle tavole sincroniche dei precedenti inventari quattrocenteschi."--Publisher's website.
