Description

The story is told in first person by Amelia Turner who is entrusted with the family secret. When a family of run aways is holed up at her home during a winter storm, Amelia befriends a slave girl of her same age and aids in their successful escape on to the next house. The epilogue tells the outcome many years later. This book is perfect for fourth graders. They learn many pertinent facts regarding the Underground Railroad and the many good people along the way.
