Besonders prägend erscheint The Mummy (USA 1932), der als Vorbild für die Remakes The Mummy (GB 1959), The Mummy Lives (USA 1993) und The Mummy (USA 1999) gilt. Darüber hinaus sind diese vier Mumienfilme Beispiele dafür, wie ägyptologische Wissenschaft und Wissen über Ägypten medial popularisiert und inszeniert wurden.0Yvonne Vosmann verknüpft in ihrer Untersuchung die Kommunikationsleistung des filmischen Mediums mit dessen Speicherfunktion im Sinne des ?kulturellen Gedächtnisses? und entwickelt daraus die These einer ?medial aufgeladenen Narration? des Mumientopos im Horrorgenre. Ihre Überprüfung anhand der vier Filme erfolgt mittels Filmanalyse, die die jeweils inhaltlich-ästhetische und formal-technische Umsetzung des Mumientopos nachzeichnet. Das Ergebnis zeigt, dass die Filme nicht nur in einem narrativen Kontext stehen, sondern neben ihrem Unterhaltungskonzept ein oft wissenschaftlich akkurat rezipiertes Ägypten-Bild transportieren. Die interdisziplinär angelegte Studie unterstreicht damit die Relevanz auch aktueller Medienformate als Untersuchungsgegenstand für die Ägyptenrezeptionsforschung.
