May apologizes to Garrison for the lapse in his his correspondence, informing him that he was obliged to delay relaying to Garrison his news of Alfred Webb's visit due to the death of his niece. May thanks Garrison for the delivery of a photograph of Garrison and his four sons, and provides his (negative) commentary on Charles Sumner's nomination, by the Democratic Party, to serve as governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
