Description
Includes the only complete account of the collections formerly in the National Museum of Ife Antiquities, Nigeria, and also includes Ife pieces in museums and private collections in western Europe and America. This CD-ROM is based on the records made by Frank Willett over a period of forty years and catalogues all the works of Ife art from Nigerian museums and from museum and private collections in Europe and the U.S.A. Includes descriptions of archaeological investigations that have been conducted in Ife since 1910, drawing on unpublished records, and text devoted to the history of archaeology in Ife, evidence for dating, technique of casting, composition of metals used and the social role of the sculpture and the hands of the artists. This is a comprehensive database permitting detailed searches and links the 340,000 words of text and the 2,200 illustrations.
