Die Studie untersucht Wahrnehmung dabei als grundlegendes Darstellungs- und Experimentierfeld der Literatur des Realismus. Wie die Lektüren der Inszenierung von Wahrnehmung bei Stifter, Storm und Fontane zeigen, erweist sich Wahrnehmung nicht nur als konstitutiv für Wirklichkeit, sondern überdies als Schauplatz eines Gespenstischen.
