Description
"Liberation" is a naive and incredible story of a sheltered young girl, who is so impressed with the "sincere manner" of an escaped convict that she compels her fiancé to hold him against his will, and ardently takes up the task of proving him innocent in the face of all sorts of difficulties. The story is quite exciting if one can accept the situations, and Miss Ostrander has a certain, glib superficiality. The heroine, Mary Greenough, is a typical sweet little womanly woman, whose innocence and lack of mentality are likely to annoy the most casual reader. Indeed, when the villain shows his true colors to her, long after the reader realizes his perfidy, and says, "You're not conceited enough to think I fell in love with a simpering little fool like you, are you?" one is likely to indulge in a joyous chuckle that the story might otherwise fall to elicit.
