"Nicht nur heute sind Straßen ein wichtiger Teil der Infrastruktur. Bereits vor zweitausend Jahren war die Via Egnatia eine Verbindung zwischen Rom und Byzanz von großer militärischer und wirtschaftlicher Bedeutung. Das Römische Reich investierte umfangreiche Ressourcen in den Ausbau dieser Verbindung; es entstanden zahlreiche Raststationen, Thermen, Andachtsorte und Friedhöfe. Mario de Matteis erforschte weite Strecken des Albanien durchquerenden Teils der Via Egnatia und entdeckte dabei Neues und bislang Unbekanntes: eine römische Therme, mehrere Grabstelen mit römischen Inschriften u.v.a.m. Der vorliegende dreisprachige Katalog dokumentiert die Forschungarbeit und die Ausstellung 'Via Egnatia – Von Durrës und Apollonia nach Ohrid', die von Mario de Matteis mit zahlreichen Fotos und Karten und begleitenden Texten im Januar 2011 im Historischen Nationalmuseum in Tirana gezeigt wurde. Ergänzt wird die Dokumentation durch Aufsätze der am Projekt beteiligten Wissenschaftler"--
