Um das Gemälde Rembrandts sind Werke seine Schüler gruppiert, erlesene Gemälde und Zeichnungen etwa von Adriaen Backer, Ferdinand Bol, Gerrit Dou, Govaert Flinck, Aert de Gelder, Jan Lievens, Nicolas Maes, Christoph Paudiss oder Jürgen Ovens. Sie stammen aus Privatsammlungen, die gleichsam unter Sumowskis Seh-Anleitung erarbeitet wurden: Rembrandt und sein Kreis aus Sumos Sicht.
