Description
Writing to Samuel J. May (Recipient), Samuel May Jr. (Writer) says he is not the right person for [Utica?], citing his introverted disposition. He also relates a recent incident in his society in which he resigned after a conflict with a few prominent members, before being asked to stay by unanimous vote of the members. He says this compels him to stay in Leicester at least for the time being. He reflects upon a few topics in relation to this incident, including his relationship with Capt. Southgate and how the small size of his society seems to lead people to be ́less willing to pursue an independent course. ́ He mentions being invited to Lexington to give sermons. In reporting on the Anniversary Week, he talks about the dispute he had with Mr. Garret, as well as various meetings he attended and some people he met.
