Abstract: A handbook on childhood cancer for parents provides information on the the most common types of cancer, cancer treatment and its side-effects, and on a variety of common issues that arise when a child is diagnosed as having cancer. Attention is focused on the disease characteristics and how to cope with the emotional impact. The material addresses some of the most common questions about cancer in the young, combining medical facts with practical suggestions, and is designed to aid parents in confronting the stress involved in rigorous treatment, frequent visits to the doctor and hospital, interruptions in school attendance and social functions, physical changes, and future uncertainties A glossary of terms and a bibliography of additional information resources are appended.
