Sie widerstanden einem Winter mitten im Sommer, erlebten jahrelange Hungersnöte, eine Epidemie nahm ihnen die Kinder. Dennoch hielten sie an ihren Träumen von einem besseren Leben fest und glaubten an ihre Zukunft. Gerd Heidenreich erarbeitete zusammen mit dem Regisseur Edgar Reitz das Drehbuch zu dessen Film 'Die andere Heimat'.
