Description
Dorothy Day (1897–1980) ist eine der markantesten Gestalten der katholischen Kirche der Neuzeit. Sie lebte in den USA und arbeitete als Journalistin und Redakteurin. Durch die Herausgabe einer Zeitung mit dem Titel Catholic Worker gründete sie gleichzeitig eine Sozialbewegung, die bis heute lebendig ist. Dorothy Day gilt als Anarchistin, Vertreterin eines christlichen Sozialismus, Frauenrechtlerin, Friedensaktivistin, Prophetin und Mystikerin. Diese Aufzählung lässt darauf schließen, dass hier eine bemerkenswert unkonventionelle und provozierende Persönlichkeit vorgestellt wird, die im deutschsprachigen Raum bisher kaum beachtet wurde.
