[Letter to] Dear Mr. Webb

Description

May lists the contents of a parcel of books and pamphlets that he sent to Webb. He mentions monetary difficulties and claims that "silver has utterly disappeared as a circulating medium." In a continuation of the letter on March 2nd, May criticizes the policy of General Nathaniel Prentiss Banks in New Orleans. He says that articles from "The London Times" and "The Daily News" are often reprinted in the American papers. May mentions the transmission of information from incoming ships via telegraph from Newfoundland. He discusses Webb's attack of "The London Times" for attempting to find a biblical basis for slavery. May accuses "The New York Times" of vacillation and rejoices again over the London emancipation meeting. He discusses business matters, George Thompson, and financial reverses.
