[Letter to] Dear friend Webb

Description

May discusses business matters and mentions the death of Francis Jackson. He tells Webb, "never, since I became an Abolitionist, have I seen such hopeful times as these for the anti-slavery cause." He complains of England's pro-Southern leanings and mentions various English articles on the Civil War and the sale of arms to the Confederacy by England. May describes the action at Port Royal and the Trent Affair. He tells Webb that Charles Sumner is lecturing in Boston and that The Mercantile Library Association invited Wendell Phillips to speak.
