Krusch una seconda volta nel 1920, più di trenta anni dopo il corpus di tutte le vite. Il risultato è un testo molto meno normalizzato,probabilmente destinato a una revisione finale da parte dell'autore, di resa estremamente complessa nella traduzione italiana qui pubblicata, la prima in lingua moderna. Riguardo ai contenuti, Germano rappresenta un exemplum, colui che, come e più degli altri di cui Venanzio si occupa (Albino, Paterno, Marcello), assomma in sé le prerogative del vescovo ideale: austero nei costumi, prodigo di elemosine, miracoloso guaritore, elegante predicatore, pastore per il popolo di Dio"--
