Description

May informs Webb once more of a box en route to him of books, pamphlets, and back issues of the "Anti-Slavery Standard." He discusses the completion of Webb's file of the "Standard" and the distribution of other material in the box. May comments on an issue of the "Atlantic Monthly" containing an article by James Russell Lowell, whom he criticizes. He explains attacks on Wendell Phillips by Julia Ward Howe and criticizes Richard Henry Dana, Jr. for his pro-slavery leanings. May discusses Anglo-American trade relations and complains of the inertness of the Lincoln administration.
