Este volumen recoge el material (documentos, panfletos, octavillas, crónicas) elaborado por el Comité de Salario para el Trabajo Doméstico de Nueva York, una organización feminista autónoma que, entre 1973 y 1977, se movilizó para exigir que el Estado pagase el trabajo doméstico. Nunca llegó a reunir más de 15 ó 20 mujeres pero formaba parte de una gran campaña internacional y tenía el apoyo de un círculo más amplio de simpatizantes. Con los escasos recursos que tenía al alcance para perseguir sus objetivos, el Comité de Nueva York tuvo un importante papel en la política feminista de Estados Unidos.
