Il volume illustra un pezzo della variegata e multiforme storia del credito cooperativo in Italia, ricostruisce le vicende dell'organizzazione del credito cooperativo in Emilia Romagna nel cinquantennio successivo alla Seconda Guerra Mondiale: dalla lenta e travagliata ripresa post-bellica agli eventi che portarono, nel 1970, alla costituzione della Federazione delle Casse Rurali ed Artigiane dell'emilia Romagna, alla più recente riforma legislativa che ha posto gli istituti di credito cooperativo di fronte a problemi e sfide inediti. Al termine di tale cammino la cooperazione di credito della regione può riaffermare coerentemente l'originaria identità mutualistica e cristiana: una solida tradizione può tuttavia contribuire a far fronte alle nuove sfide, non può offrire ricette.
