Description

The Essential Writingsʺ Series presents critical positions from Central America, and the Caribbean and its diaspora in series of monographic books comprising manifestos, essays, chronicles, manuscripts, testimony or interviews of a diverse group of curators, theorists, thinkers, cultural critics and artists of the region. Volume 2 entitled compiles five essays writen by editor, curator, journalist and critic of Panamanian art Adrienne Samos (b. Panama 1961, currently based in Madrid), written between 2000 and 2015. Her texts have been one of the most important drivers of critical thought in Panama since the early years of the 1990œs, reflecting on the relevance and the public dimension of contemporary art. Samos texts understand perfectly what it means to respond in a timely manner to the urgent needs of a specific place and time. Each text is an attempt to grab those different moments of transformation, rebuilding social, economic and political processes that gave rise to some of the most daring artistic practices.
