Zwemmen kon Enith Brigitha (Curaçao, 1955) als de beste. En zolang de DDR-dames maar thuisbleven won ze vrijwel elke race. Zodra de DDR-zwemsters echter van de partij waren, trokken ze als een magneet al het goud hun kant op. Pas in 1990 snapte Enith waarom: de staat had de piepjonge zwemsters stelselmatig doping toegediend. Zonder dat ze het wisten. Bij zo veel kunstmatige spierbundels had Enith het nakijken, want zelf doping gebruiken? Het kwam niet eens in haar op. De bronzen olympische medailles die Enith in 1976 op eigen kracht behaalde hebben voor haar een gouden rand. Want zonder de gedrogeerde rivales uit de DDR was het goud hoogstwaarschijnlijk naar haar gegaan.
