granted as a reward to the officers and men serving on board of the Virginia, Patrick Henry, Jamestown, Raleigh, Beaufort and Teazer, for their gallantry and courage in the naval engagement with the enemy's vessels in Hampton Roads, on the 8th and 9th of March, 1862
