First Sentence
The attribution of the Canterbury Tales to Geoffrey Chaucer has never been questioned: the list of the poet's works in the Prologue to The Legend of Good Women, the attribution of the Legend to 'Chaucer' in the Introduction to the Man of Law's Tale, and the further list of the poet's works in the 'retracciouns' at the end of the Parson's Tale, which includes the Legend and 'the tales of Caunterbury', all concur in establishing the place of the Canterbury Tales in the Chaucer canon.
