Description

Samuel May, Jr. writes William Lloyd Garrison on the passing of George Thompson, whose death May asserts can leave them "neither surprised nor afflicted, in view of his infirm health". May asserts that tribute ought to be paid to Thompson in light of his years of "great services to humanity everywhere", and offers his preference for Garrison's suggestion of a public meeting to honor Thompson. May states that Garrison and Wendell Phillips ought to speak at such a meeting, and suggests a number of other possible speakers. May writes that Garrison's "predictions & expectations" have come to pass in the South concerning the "outrages & persecutions to which the colored people of the South are still subjected".
